Craiova

Craiova is the main city in the region of Oltenia, being a city with a great history. Main historycal person is Mihai Viteazul, the first king of Wallachia, Moldova and Transilvania at the same time and making the first union of the Romanian countrys in 1600 - 1601. Oltenia or Lesser Wallachia is a historical province of Romania.

It is situated between the Danube, the Transylvanian Alps branch of the Carpathian Mountains and the Olt river (although counties to the east run across the river in some areas). The main city of Oltenia is Craiova.

Other cities are Drobeta-Turnu Severin, Rmnicu Vlcea, Slatina, and Trgu Jiu.

Tismana monastery

Tismana monastery is 10 km far from Hobita and is one of the most famous monuments feudal age architecture. The monastery is built by Vlaicu Voda Basarab betewwn 1375-1378.

Horezu monastery

Horezu monastery is in the Romanii de Jos city and is the most important monument from the brancoveanu period.

Danube's narrow

Danube's Narrow in the Boiler area is a number of wide and narrow places that the Danube is crossing making it a very interesting place to be seen.

Drobeta Turnu Severin and Orsova

The ruins of the roman castre is near Traian's bridge. Here the Imperor Traian staied in 105 and 106 and today there are only the ruins of the rooms, altar and deposit where he lived.

Jiu and Olt

Jiu and Olt are the two main rivers that cross this county.

Jiu is hear Craiova and Olt is at the eastern border of Oltenia.

Bouth rivers cross the Carpathians mountains and they make impresive narrows.
